The dbx 224X-DS is a vintage, standalone Type II Tape Noise Reduction System released during the 1980s. Part of the dbx "Digital Series" (hence the "DS" suffix), it was engineered to dramatically expand the dynamic range of consumer tape decks, allowing analog cassettes to structurally compete with the sound of early Compact Discs.
